Jerwood Painting Fellowships are a key strand of the Jerwood Visual Arts programme, a major initiative of the Jerwood Charitable Foundation designed to promote and celebrate the work of emerging artists across artistic disciplines.
Created to identify and support three outstanding painters, the purpose of the Fellowships is to offer
structured opportunities for artists to develop in two distinctive areas: studio practice and professional development.
Jerwood Painting Fellowships are an open submission opportunity. Three artists will become Jerwood Painting Fellows. Each will receive a bursary of £10,000, will be assigned a mentor for a six month period and will be expected to work towards an exhibition within the Jerwood Visual Arts programme at Jerwood Space, London and on tour.
UK based painters are invited to apply for three new Jerwood Painting Fellowships, to be awarded to outstanding artists in the first five years of their professional practice. Artists must not have or have scheduled a solo show or have gallery representation and must be UK residents.
Three selected artists will each receive a bursary of £10,000 and a six-month period of critical and professional development support from mentors: Paul Bonaventura, Stephen Farthing RA and Chantal Joffe.
CLOSING DEADLINE IS 24 SEPTEMBER 2010

Between October 2010 and April 2011 mentors will engage with the Jerwood Painting Fellows both in critical review of their work and working practice and by aiding their professional development through involvement with the wider contemporary art community. This programme of support will be devised to suit the needs of each Fellow.
During this period Fellows will be required to work towards an exhibition of new work within the Jerwood Visual Arts programme in May 2011. The mentors will curate the exhibition. Following the exhibition at Jerwood Space, the exhibition will tour within the UK.
